Hi, My Keyboard is not working : Caps Lock gets on after a while, tried even with other System, problem still persists. It s a HP 250 G7 Notebook from 2020.

Any hints appreciated.
Only work around so far is to connect external keyboard and press Caps Lock.

Hi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand that the built-in keyboard on your HP 250 G7 becomes unresponsive after some time, with the Caps Lock turning on, while an external keyboard can still be used to recover it. Since you have also tested the laptop with another operating system and the issue persists, this makes a Windows-specific software issue less likely.

Please try the following:

Test the keyboard outside Windows

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly to open the startup menu.
  • Try using the built-in keyboard there.
  • If the keyboard becomes unresponsive even in the Startup Menu, HP indicates that the integrated keyboard hardware may need service or replacement.

Run the HP Keyboard Diagnostic

  • Start Windows and open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Go to Component Tests > Input Devices > Keyboard Test.
  • Run the test and note any failure ID generated.

Since you have already confirmed that the behavior persists with another operating system, if the keyboard also fails during the HP Startup Menu or the hardware diagnostic reports a failure, the issue is likely hardware-related and the keyboard would need to be inspected/replaced.

Please let us know what happens when the keyboard stops responding: does pressing Caps Lock change the Caps Lock indicator, or does the indicator remain on regardless of the key being pressed?

Best regards,
