Microsoft Windows 11

After updating BIOS to version 01.06.02 (released 8/12/2021), power management is kind of messed up, and whatever I do (meddling with every setting in Windows AND BIOS), situation does not get better. Here are what I got:

1. On AC power, Sleep command (closing the lid, pressing power button, or manually select sleep from Start > Power) turns the screen off, but the fans spin indefinitely. In other words, laptop does not enter deep sleep. Moreover, fan spins faster over time. Close the lid for about 30 minutes, and the fans roar as if I'm playing a CPU-intensive AAA-class 3D game application. (Maybe because laptop gets hot over time and the fans need faster spin to dissipate the heat?)

To stop the fan, I have to HIBERNATE the laptop, not SLEEP. But this is not a true solution.

2. I have configured the system to maximize my battery health in BIOS. This setting limits the battery charge to 80%. However this setting is no longer respected. Laptop now charges all the way to 100%. I tried discharging all the way down to 10% and recharging, but it still charges 100%. Also, I have toggled every power option in BIOS, in case they conflict each other, but no luck.

I suspect there is a bug in the latest BIOS for this laptop. Before updating, this never happened. As far as I know, issue #2 was observed on very first reboot after the update. Issue #1 was observed one day after the update (but probably it was happening on day one).

So I tried downloading the old bios 01.04.01, but installing the old BIOS failed. Seems like the latest 01.06.02 contains some critical security updates so HP does not allow downgrading.

If I'm doing something wrong please guide me, but if I'm not, I think HP should address this issue and release newer BIOS.

UPDATE TO THIS ISSUE:

1. SLEEP ISSUE: fixed in BIOS version 01.07.03

2. CHARGE ISSUE: not an issue (charge is limited at hardware level, and limited max charge is reported 100% to OS)
