Hi @Lushen ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ProBook 450 G8 is randomly shutting down, there could be several potential causes, such as hardware faults, overheating, or software issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to diagnose and resolve the issue:

  1. Check for Overheating:

    • Ensure that the notebook's vents are not blocked by dust or obstructions.
    • Use compressed air to clean out the vents to improve airflow.
    • Consider using a cooling pad to help manage temperatures, especially if you're using intensive applications.
  2. Update Drivers and BIOS:

  3. Check Power Settings:

    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and ensure that your power plan settings are not set to turn off the computer unexpectedly.
    • Set it to balanced or recommended settings.
  4. Battery Health:

    • Make sure the battery is properly seated and get a health check using HP Support Assistant.
    • If the battery is old, consider replacing it as deteriorated batteries can cause random shutdowns.
  5. Hardware Diagnostics:

    • Run the built-in HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues.
    • Shut down the laptop, then power on and press F2 repeatedly to enter the diagnostics mode.
  6. Remove External Devices:

    • Disconnect all external devices such as USB drives, docking stations, and monitors to see if the shutdowns persist. One of these devices might be causing the issue.
  7. Perform a Clean Boot:

    • Run a clean boot to see if startup programs are causing conflicts.
    • Search for "msconfig" in the Windows search bar, then go to System Configuration > Services, check "Hide all Microsoft services," and click Disable all.
    • Restart your laptop to see if the issue continues.
  8. Check for Software Conflicts or Viruses:

    • Ensure your antivirus software is up to date and do a full system scan for malware.
    • Uninstall any recently added programs which might be causing conflicts.
  9. System Reset or Restore:

    • If none of the above solutions work, consider performing a system reset or restore to revert to a previous stable state, keeping your files intact.

Please , do let me know if you need any other assistance, will be happy to assist you

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as well
