I bought a laptop HP spectre x360 in June last year and less than a year later the left and right arrows stopped working.
I thought initially that it was a simple driver issue, but after 6 months of troubleshooting the issue is still not resolved, the hardware diagnostic shows that it might be due to hardware as those two keys are no responding to the test.
Can someone help?

Hi @vndtest
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've been dealing with a frustrating issue with your HP Spectre x360's left and right arrow keys. Since you've already tried troubleshooting and diagnostics, here are some steps you can take to further investigate and possibly resolve the problem:
1. Check for Physical Obstructions
- Inspect the keyboard for any debris or obstructions under the keys. Gently clean around the affected keys using compressed air.
2. External Keyboard Test
- Connect an external USB keyboard to your laptop. Check if the left and right arrow keys work on the external keyboard. This can help confirm if it’s a hardware issue with the laptop keyboard.
3. Reinstall Keyboard Drivers
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Keyboards section, right-click your keyboard device, and choose Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.
4. Update BIOS
- Visit the HP support website to check if there is a BIOS update available for your model. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.
5. Reset Keyboard Settings
- Go to Settings > Devices > Typing. Look for options to reset or troubleshoot keyboard settings.
6. Hardware Diagnostics
- Since the hardware diagnostics indicated a potential hardware issue, you may need to pursue repairs or replacement. HP's built-in diagnostic tools can sometimes pinpoint issues.
- Run HP Support Assistant and check for hardware diagnostics specific to the keyboard.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
