I’m looking to upgrade my internals on my HP 14-dq0051dx laptop and was wondering what all I could feasibly do by myself.

Hello.
Checking the Maintenance and Service Guide is a good start. It has part numbers and instructions.
Practically, you can perhaps add memory and replace the SSD drive. Note that the supported memory configurations depend on the CPU model (=system board model). You can use any compatible generic memory / SSD modules here.
If your current wireless module is a single antenna module you could upgrade it to a dual antenna module for higher performance. This also necessitates obtaining the dual antenna kit and routing it inside the display assembly which is not a quick and easy task for beginners. It is also possible to replace the display panel to a FullHD model if your current display is a low-res model.
That's it, really.
