Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have recently purchased a Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD disk.
I have plugged it into the available slot of my HP ZBook 15 G5.

When starting the laptop and pressing F9 to enter the boot menu, the SSD is listed :

But it is not recognized by Windows 11 / Computer Management / Storage / Disk Management (run as administrator)
Diskpart List disk does not show up the SSD.

From the BIOS setup interface I only can see the M.2 SSD option. This is checked in. (from the doc : When checked, the M.2 slot typically used for NVMe storage modules is available). I can't see options to configure the M.2 SSD.

How can this M2 be recognized from the Disk Management ?

Thanks,
Emmanuel.

I have moved forward in the Windows 11 installation.

On my laptop I have 2 SSD M.2 :

  • A Toshiba KXG50ZNV512G - 512 GB. This is the genuine SDD of the ZBook 15 G5. It is hosting the Operating System (Win 11) and the applications.
  • A Samsumg SSD 970 EVO Plus - 2 TB. Data storage. Initially not recognized by Win 11.

I removed the 512 GB SSD M.2 drive.
I then reinstalled Windows 11 (Business editions - Updated March 2022 - Release date: 3/15/2022) on the 2 TB SSD M.2 drive.
Everything run well.

I then decided to re-install Windows 11 on the 512 GB SSD M.2 drive.
I installed the Samsung NVMe Driver

The Samsumg SSD 970 EVO Plus - 2 TB drive is finally recognized.

In addition, we need to ensure that

  • In the BIOS setup, AHCI is enabled (RAID is disabled)
  • The following devices are properly installed with the latest version, updating the driver using the Computer Management / Device Manager. Do not rely on a single Windows Update.

Quick update on the latest actions.

I have installed the latest version of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. No change. The NVMe is not showing up from the Disk Management.

I have then launched a Windows 10 installation. The NVMe disk is listed as a disk to install Windows 10. I have created a partition and I have formatted it. I have stopped the installation process at that point.

In addition, I was also able to create a partition, and to format this disk, using an USB Windows 10 install, pressing Shift + F10 to enter in the command line, using DiskPart to create the partition.

It seems that something is missing to Windows 11 to properly recognize this NVMe.

I would like to avoid reinstalling back to Windows 10.

Any clue ?
