HP EliteBook 830 G5 Base Model Notebook PC

if you own a Eiltebook like 830 G5, 840 G5, 850 G5, etc. you should know, that MS Windows will automatically update your bios to HP Firmware Pack (Q78)  Version: 01.28.00 Rev.A Date: 13. Mai 2024 File: sp152771.exe .

That update up to now caused several eiltebooks to get the boot screen warning "this bios ist not for production use"

If you update and get that warning, your bios will be no longer updateable or downgradeable by software means!

As far as I know that applies to every way of update, not only to the automatic update via ms windows update.

My advice is  to block the update by

1. setting a bios password (even setting it to e.g. "bios" will do the job)

2. blocking bios update with an option from within the bios

3. blocking windows to perform bios updates

PLEASE consider doing that, at least until it's clear what caused the problem and how to check whether your specific elitebook get a bricked bios with that update or not.

Unfortunately it seems, this problem has happened to me also.
See: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-Notebooks/Windows-update-installed-BIOS-version-NOT-for-produ... for full report.

Please let me know, if you find a solution.

I would like to ask the other way around: does anyone have an 8xx G5 notebook with the BIOS 01.28.00 and without the warning?
