HP EliteBook 840 G6 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 11

Several issues have occurred, such as the fingerprint scanner stopping but later being fixed, problems with right and left clicks, keyboard and mouse functionality, and BIOS lock. On some occasions, it has been necessary to reinstall Windows from the drive due to a corrupted Windows update. Additionally, there was an instance where no sign-in options were available, requiring another reinstallation of Windows. There was also a situation in which the system remained in the booting process for several hours

Hi @Lola_A_A

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing those details. I understand the concern, especially since multiple symptoms have occurred over time on your HP EliteBook 840 G6, including fingerprint reader interruptions, keyboard and mouse input concerns, BIOS lock behavior, missing sign-in options, extended boot times, and Windows reinstallations following update-related corruption.

Since several different components have been affected, it would be helpful to determine whether the behavior is related primarily to Windows, system drivers, BIOS firmware, or the hardware itself.

Could you please help us with the following information?

  1. Is the notebook currently operating normally after the most recent Windows reinstallation, or are any of these issues still occurring?
  2. What is the current BIOS version installed on the system?
  3. Have you performed HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tests, particularly for:
    • System Board
    • Storage Drive
    • Keyboard
    • Memory
  4. When the BIOS lock occurred, was a BIOS administrator password set intentionally, or did the system unexpectedly request a password?
  5. For the right-click, left-click, keyboard, and mouse issues:
    • Did they stop working simultaneously?
    • Were both the built-in keyboard/touchpad and any external mouse or keyboard affected?
  6. Did the extended booting issue display the HP logo, a spinning circle, a black screen, or a recovery screen?
  7. Are Windows Updates and HP drivers currently fully updated through:
    • HP Support Assistant
    • Windows Update

The combination of intermittent input device issues, Windows corruption events, missing sign-in options, and prolonged boot behavior can point to different areas of the system. Gathering the details above will allow us to better understand whether we should focus on software integrity, BIOS firmware, storage health, or hardware diagnostics on the HP EliteBook 840 G6.

We look forward to your update.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,
