On my HP computer, if I go into the BIOS and set the battery health setting to maximize my battery health (from let HP manage the battery) the battery icon in the system tray then shows the charge as 9%.  This is instead of100%, as it was before.  The battery icon is whited out as opposed to being black as before.  The charge figure does not go higher than 9%.

I don't want to limit charging to 9%.  Of course, the battery has more than 9%.  It's just showing as 9%.  Why is it doing this?   How to fix?

Hello Projecttoday,

Thank you for posting your concern,

Troubleshooting Battery Health Manager Settings on HP ZBook Power 15.6 inch G10 A Mobile Workstation

When you change the battery health settings to "Maximize My Battery Health," the battery's maximum charge capacity can be intentionally limited to preserve its long-term health. Here's how to address the issue you're experiencing with the battery icon showing incorrect charge levels:

  1. Understand the Setting:

    • The "Maximize My Battery Health" setting limits the battery's charge to around 80% to reduce stress on the battery and extend its lifespan. The display variation to show 9% is unusual, which might suggest a calibration issue.
  2. Battery Calibration:

    • You can perform a battery calibration to realign the battery indicator with the actual charge level. Discharge the battery completely until the laptop turns off, then recharge it to 100% without interruption.
  3. Revert to Previous Setting:

    • If the behavior is not as expected and the battery indicator continues to show 9%, consider reverting to the "Let HP Manage My Battery Health" setting temporarily and observe any changes.
  4. Perform a BIOS Reset:

    • Enter the BIOS setup and reset to the default settings. This may help recalibrate the battery settings.
  5. Update or Re-flash BIOS:

    • Ensure that your BIOS is updated to the latest version through the HP Support website. This can correct potential firmware issues that might affect battery reporting.
  6. Software Update:

    • Check for updates on the HP website for any power management drivers or software related to battery health which might need updating.
  7. Check System Tray Settings:

    • Make sure that any relevant BIOS update that changes how battery capacity is displayed reflects these settings in Windows as well.
  8. Hardware Inspection:

    • If none of these solutions resolve the issue, and the battery is physically more charged than indicated, consider contacting HP support for a hardware inspection.
