HP 255 15.6 inch G10 Notebook PC (78U76AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I did an Windows Update on my HP Notebook. The BIOS did an Update too. When starting the Laptop it asks me for my bitlocker recovery key. I did enter it. The PC did Boot, i saw the HP logo, afterwards it shut down. After starting the PC again the same bitlocker recovery key warning appeared.  https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_14914515-14914500-16 this should be the fix but my UEFI version has no secure boot options. Version: 2.8.2.12

Hi @Peter27958,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for providing the details and the screenshot.

Based on your description, the issue appears to have started immediately after a Windows Update and BIOS update, and the repeated BitLocker Recovery prompt suggests that the TPM/boot security information changed during the firmware update. The fact that the notebook reaches the HP logo and then shuts down before Windows loads indicates there may still be a BIOS or firmware-related issue preventing a normal startup.

I also reviewed your screenshot and can see that the BIOS menu you're viewing does not show the Secure Boot options referenced in the document you linked. On some BIOS versions and configurations, those settings may not be available or may be located differently, so the document may not fully match your current BIOS interface.

At this point, I would recommend trying an HP BIOS Recovery to verify whether the BIOS can be restored successfully:

  1. Turn the notebook off.
  2. Connect the AC adapter.
  3. Press and hold Windows + B.
  4. While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds, then release only the Power button.
  5. Continue holding Windows + B for another 10-15 seconds.
  6. Check whether the HP BIOS Recovery screen appears or whether a recovery process starts.

If the notebook starts successfully after BIOS Recovery:

  1. Allow Windows to load completely.
  2. Back up any important data.
  3. Update the BIOS again from HP Support if a newer revision is available.
  4. Install the latest AMD chipset drivers and system drivers for the HP 255 G10 from HP Support.
  5. Restart and monitor whether the BitLocker prompt returns.

A few additional questions:

  • Does the notebook power off immediately after the HP logo every time, or does it sometimes reach the Windows loading screen?
  • Have you entered the BitLocker recovery key more than once, and does it accept the key each time?
  • Are there any error messages after the HP logo, or does the system simply shut down?
  • Are you able to access the HP Startup Menu using Esc and run F2 Hardware Diagnostics?

If the BIOS Recovery does not resolve the issue, or if the notebook continues looping back to BitLocker and shutting down, the next step would be to contact HP Phone Support. A live support agent can perform more advanced troubleshooting and, where available, use remote/live assistance tools to review the firmware and recovery environment in real time.

Please let us know the outcome of the BIOS Recovery procedure and whether the system is able to remain powered on long enough to run HP Hardware Diagnostics.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
