Hi,

Just to add, this is happening on PC's too. It seems as though HP have stopped supporting the HTTP protocol for BIOS updates but have forgotten to change the BIOS update mechanism in subsequent updates released since the protocol was deprecated. Please explain what work would be undertaken during a warranty repair?

Hi @CHS_RG,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for the additional information. The fact that you are experiencing the same behavior on multiple HP systems is important.

Regarding the HTTP protocol, the “The protocol specified in the URL is not supported” message indicates that the BIOS Network Update process is unable to use the protocol specified by the update URL. HP has historically supported network-based BIOS updates using a repository URL, so we understand your concern that a change in the way the update server is accessed could be contributing to the issue. However, we would not want to confirm the exact cause until it has been properly investigated for the affected models and BIOS versions.

As for the warranty repair, the exact work cannot be determined in advance. Once the system is received by an HP Authorized Service Center, the service technicians will diagnose the unit based on the reported BIOS/network-update failure and the system's hardware and BIOS configuration. Based on their findings, they will determine whether the issue can be resolved through a BIOS-related repair or whether a hardware component, such as the system board, requires replacement.

The service center will then test the system after the repair to verify that it is operating correctly.

Since the issue is now occurring across multiple PCs, I recommend providing the service team with the exact error message, affected models, BIOS versions, and the fact that the Network BIOS Update previously worked. This information should help them investigate the issue more effectively.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
