Hello.
Your charger is most likely too weak. Your computer is using more than 45W or power so to compensate this the battery is discharged to provide whatever extra power the computer needs. If the battery is depleted, your laptop will probably turn off immediately because it is unable to power all components.
Check the bottom of your laptop for the power requirements. My Elitebook 840 G6 contains the following:
Input 19.5V - 3.33A or 20V 3.25A
The 19.5V input is for the barrel type connector (far right) and 20V is for the USB-C charging (next to barrel connector)
Basic electricity calculation: Volts x Amperes = Watts. In my case I need a 65W charger.
If you max out all power saving settings in Windows you may be able to cope with a 45W charger.
If you are getting a new charger I would recommend a USB-C charger because it more versatile and can be used to charge and power other laptops, mobile phones, tablet, headphones etc, but you cannot use the only USB-C port while the charger is plugged in.
