I have Hp 245 G6 Notebook Pc with AMD A6-7350B R5. My laptop has an empty optical bay, which was not being used for my purpose, so I decided to install new SSD using 9.7mm caddy. It fits perfectly and the hardware is ok. But my laptop is not showing the SSD.
I think as the optical bay was not used it was turned off from the factory and there is no option about it in the BIOS setting.
Some additional information:
The computer is using Microsoft safe space controller to manage storage.

@NightFuryz, Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP 245 G6 Notebook PC.
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!
If you have installed an SSD in the optical bay of your HP 245 G6 Notebook PC using a 9.7mm caddy and it's not being recognized, it's possible that the bay might be disabled by default or not set up correctly. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
-
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Double-check your BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure that all SATA ports are enabled. Although you mentioned there may be no option for enabling the optical bay, sometimes it could be under different categories like 'Advanced' or 'Storage Configuration'.
-
Disk Management:
- In Windows, go to Disk Management (you can search for it in the Start menu) to see if the SSD is listed there. Sometimes a new drive needs to be initialized or assigned a letter before it appears in File Explorer.
-
Driver Update:
- Ensure that all your system drivers, particularly storage controller drivers, are up to date. This can be done through Device Manager or the HP Support website.
-
Check Physical Connection:
- Make sure that the SSD is properly seated in the caddy and that the caddy is fully inserted into the optical bay. Sometimes a loose connection can prevent the system from recognizing the drive.
-
Attempt Alternative Detection:
- Try booting from the SSD by configuring the boot order in the BIOS to see if the system recognizes it that way.
-
Test the SSD Independently:
- If possible, test the SSD using an external adapter or another computer to verify it works correctly outside of the caddy setup.
-
Caddy Compatibility:
- Ensure that the caddy is compatible with your model, as some may require particular specifications to support SSDs in optical bays.
I hope this helps!
Take care and have an amazing day!
