HP Envy x360

Hello!

Ive always used an Apple Mac for my photography, however I need to get a business laptop for my accounting and any dedicated running of my business.  Ive seen the HP Envy x360 and thought it looked great, however I wanted to know opinions from you if this is a good move and if I can still save everything on my iCloud account if I move over to a windows laptop???

Help!

Thanks

Yes, you can access iCloud from a Windows machine.  I use it on my Zbook workstation to keep track of my iPad Pro data and make the information available on Windows.  The actual transfer of a new photo (for example) from the iPad to the iCloud on Windows is seamless and takes between one and five minutes to update the data on the Windows side.

Observations

Were I you, I would consider investing a little more money and consider a business / commercial class machine.  The warranty is generally longer (and might be more comprehensive, though I cannot guarantee that is the case).  The components are usually better and many of these are meant to be upgraded / repaired in the field (more options for features and replacement).

The upfront cost for a business class machine is higher, of course.  As with the consumer grade lines, there are lower, mid-range, and top-of-the-line choices.  How you decide must be based on your budget, your skill level (business grade systems provide a lot of options, some of which are powerful but not necessarily "point and click").  Consider the timeframe of your investment (how long you expect to keep a particular machine before upgrading / replacement).

My opinion

The "x360" option to fully extend the computer into a "tablet" format is a really nice feature.  Know that the hinges are somewhat delicate - these are not military grade hardware items and abuse - or even heavy use - might result in problems down the line.   Depending on what you read, the option is the worst thing ever to happen to a computer or one of the best features ever invented.  I had a very nice EliteBook x360 and it performed quite well.  I admit I primarily used it as a "sitting on the desk" system and only occasionally made use of the fold-to-tablet operation.  The system was a loaner and I did donate it at the end of the loan period (one year).

Information - iCloud - Read this and perhaps ask more questions at the Apple forum, too.
