Hello.

The battery charging mode should also be selectable in BIOS settings. Does that work?

Are you also running the latest version of HP Power Manager?

I am experiencing the same issue. According to HP Support Assistant, all my drivers are up to date. The function is enabled in BIOS. Regardless of whether I have the option "Maximize my battery health" or "allow HP to manage my battery" selected in HP Power Manager, the battery charges to 100%. Even if the program should show 100% as 80% in "Maximize my battery health" mode, the battery should start charging to the real 100% after changing the profile, but it remains at 100% all the time.

1) The battery charging mode in the bios also changed to maximize my battery health

2) Hp power manager runs on the latest version

the current latest version of bios is 1.15.02 the problem continues, if I downgrade the bios version to 1.13, battery optimization option works perfectly,(charging only up to 80%)

Hello @MiloB

Are you certain the Battery Health is not working? Maximize My Battery Life should charge the battery up to 80% but the laptop will still report it as 100%.

I just tried this with my G9 laptop:

1. I charged to 100% with Maximize My Battery Life setting. Windows and the HP Power Manager both reported 100%.

2. Then I changed the setting to Let HP Manage My Battery. I rebooted my computer (actually turned off and on) and observed the charging LED turning from white to amber (=started charging); Windows & HP Power Manager both reported the battery at 84% (and charging) right after I got back to Windows.

If laptop battery is already at 100% and you change the setting to Maximize My Battery - I don't think the laptop actively discharges the battery to 80% - but I can't be bothered to check.

(I also noted that the Power Manager fails to set the battery charging mode if BIOS is password protected, but no error message is shown - bit of a fail there from the HP Power Manager coding team...)

In any case, this behaviour is explained at the HP Battery Health Manager support page:

"When you have Maximize My Battery Health enabled, the battery icon in the taskbar displays the maximum state-of-charge as 100%."

"When initially introduced, the battery icon in the taskbar displayed 80% as the maximum state-of-charge, because the maximum state-of-charge for the battery was limited to 80%."

"With the latest update to HP Battery Health Manager, the battery icon now displays the battery charging to 100%, even though the battery charge capacity is still limited to 80%. This change was made to simplify deployment across organizations of different sizes and requirements."
