More than likely. I think it leads me to believe that even though the RealTek driver fixed you guys computers there is a deeper broader issue going on if I have the same problem and I don't have that piece of hardware.

That's really strange. I bought my laptop in the EU and:

  1. I do not have anything Realtek-related in the Device Manager.
  2. My laptop has SD card reader (on the left side near audio jack).
  3. When I disable System devices > Mobile Intel(R) Processor Family I/O PCI Express Root Port #12 - 9D1B CPU usage goes down (and SD card reader stops working). This solution works for me for last 1-2 weeks.
  4. My version of BIOS is 01.02.04 Rev.A and I do not see any updates.

fhgut, when you disable Mobile Intel(R) Processor Family I/O PCI Express Root Port #12 - 9D1B in System devices, Realtek reader is no more visible. Reenable Port #12 and than you should find Realtek PCIE CardReader in the section "Memory devices" (or similar name as I don't have english Win ;)). Load the newer driver and... 😉

Thank you very much Spri85.

Updating the driver of "Realtek PCIE CardReader" was the solution!

At least for me.

Same here.

I updated my "Realtek PCIE CardReader" and it seems working.

I have previous deactivated "PCI #12" and it's worked too.

I read whole this thread. I have same prolem with similar notebook HP EliteBook 820 G1: CPU 25% by acpi.sys is in fresh install Win 7 SP1 or Win 10.1803, and bug is not in wifi, batery, ethernet, sound ... .
Same CPU usage problem is in Ubuntu (i test live Ubuntu Mate 18.04 from usb), but there is simple solution in terminal:

echo "disable" > /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe2A

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1461511

But I dont know, how reproduce Linux solution in Windows...

Looks like the problem solved fo me too.

What I did:

- Updated Intel drivers from their site. Note: I can't update automaticlly the video driver because HP has custom modification of it. So, I downloaded *.zip version of the driver, manually uninstalled current video driver and installed normal Intel driver.

-  Updated Windows to 1803 version. I have the HP 470 ProBook and there is no problem to update Windows as I saw in this topic.

- Updated Realtek PCIE CardReader driver automaticcaly from Device Manager.

But all of this steps did not solve the high CPU usage by System process.

Thanks JK80 for interesting instruction. I did the same. I downloaded the CardReader driver from Realtek and tried to manually update the driver to 10.0.16299.29095 too. But when I unchecked 'compatible hardware' flag there was not this version. So, I installed this driver from *.exe file as normal and next tried to update manually again. I choosed the directory with same previously intalled driver, but in second time there was a necessary version from 13 March 2018.

In last couple days the CPU usage always is normal. I hope it is done for me.
