I've found several posts where people have asked this same exact question but there doesn't seem to be any answers. I had a fully charged battery on Friday, then I came into work this morning and once again I'm at 0%.
We bought a fleet of 160 of these laptops, and this issue seems to be an issue across the board. Anyone have any idea? We have the UEFI/BIOS set to protect my battery so yes they only technically charge to 80% but they still shouldn't be going dead over the weekend. I also can't imagine this deep drain doing anything for the health of the batteries.

If your laptop is unplugged and you find the battery has significantly drained overnight, one or move devices are drawing power. Windows allows some devices to continue to draw power. it is also possible that a Windows update replaced a device driver with one that is not power efficient.
Some devices can cause to cause power drain
USB hubs that can allow charging of devices Thunderbolt port that can be used to dock with The Intel Management Engine may allow some devices to maintain power. |
Run the following command from the windows administrators command prompt
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed |
for example the following devices are enabled even if the PC is turned off
They are all drawing power EVEN WHEN LAPTOP IS TURNED OFF.
|
You can disable these devices using the device manager as explained in step 1 here
|
|
All those devices above will use power even if system is turned off.

You should run the two reports below to find additional problems, if any.
Energy Report | A list of possible problems ranked as Errors, Warnings, or Informational |
Sleep Study | The history of sleep going back several days |
These report are obtained by using the Administrators command prompt.
Copy and paste the following into the command prompt window for the energy report.
powercfg /energy .\energy-report.html |
Note the number of errors and warnings.
|
Copy and paste the following commands into the same window to get sleep history
powercfg /SleepStudy .\SleepStudy-report.html |

That is pretty bad. Possibly it is not actually turning off. This can happen if you close the lid before the laptop has fully turned off. It will sleep instead of powering down.
How are you shutting down the laptop? Are you pressing the power button to turn off? It may not turn off if the power button plan is sleep
When you click the windows power off icon, be sure to wait few minutes before closing the lid.

You know what, I usually shut the lid 20-30 seconds after the screen goes black and the power light goes dark.
I'll leave my laptop open for 5 minutes after I shut it down and see if that changes things and report back.

20-30 seconds after the lights go out seems good.
Instead of closing the lid, press a key and see if the laptops wakes up. It may never have shut down.
plug in a mouse or USB flash and see if it lights up.
You might look in the windows event viewer in both system and applications for an error message such as '...xxx... vetoed shutdown..."
I do not have a 455 g9 and was unable to find it's bios simulator. Does the hp 455 g9 bios have a "power management" option in bios?
There is a discussion of USB-C chargers here

If you have a USB-C charger you might consider getting a magsafe adapter and let the system always stay on the charger. The magsafe just prevents the USB-C socket from getting damaged if the cable is accidently pulled or tripped over.

I'll try the USB trick. We have over a hundred of these ProBook 455 G9's so I'm testing another one that doesn't have nearly as many apps installed to see how it behaves unplugged.
Now keep in mind, my laptop charges just fine, and it holds a charge about as good as they can BUT it's when it's shutdown and unplugged in my laptop bag over the weekend where all the sudden it's drained.
Oh and that magnetic USB-C adaptor.... I need... NOW! Amazon's gonna make even more money off of me.

Check your bios and see if it has the "in bag detection" and disabled it.
It put the system into hibernate mode if it detects it is being held vertical like in a backpack.
