Hello, I'm having a problem with my HP Elitebook Folio 9470m laptop. When I start it, it displays the HP logo, restarts, then displays the HP logo again, along with the error: ME state in recovery mode. This doesn't bother me, but the first part of the startup process (before the restart and error message) takes over a minute, which is a major problem. What should I do?

Hi @_itzzs,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing these issues with your HP EliteBook Folio 9470m. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting for HP EliteBook Folio 9470m

  1. Update BIOS:
    • First, ensure your BIOS is up to date. You can download the latest BIOS update from the HP support website by searching for your specific model.

  2. Reset BIOS to Default:

    • Restart your laptop.
    • Press Esc key repeatedly as soon as you restart the laptop to enter the start-up menu.
    • Select the BIOS setup by pressing F10.
    • In BIOS Setup, press F9 to load setup defaults, and then press F10 to save settings and exit.

  3. Check for System Updates:

    • Once the computer restarts, check for any updates through Windows Update.

  4. Check Intel Management Engine (IME) Firmware:

    • The "ME state in recovery mode" typically indicates an issue with the Intel Management Engine firmware. Check if it needs a firmware update:
    • Visit the HP support website and check for any updates related to Intel Management Engine.

  5. Run HP Diagnostics:

    • Turn off your device and then power it on; immediately and repeatedly press the Esc key until the Startup Menu appears.
    • Press F2 to run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics program and conduct various checks to rule out hardware issues.

  6. Reinstalling Windows (Last Resort):

    • If the problem persists, consider backing up your data and performing a reinstall of Windows. Ensure you have a recovery media available or create one using HP Recovery Manager or Windows' built-in tools.

I hope it helps.
