I recently purchased a second hand Probook 450 G4 and I noticed the BIOS is protected by password. I contacted HP support to see what could be done and they were absolutely not helpful. Basically they told me to either send it to HP and they would replace the main board. Or there might be a service center that would be willing to help me. Either way I need to pay someone to have the password reset.
Is there really no other solution? The laptop itself is still under warranty.

Hi:
Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to help you, since HP will no longer supply the required SMC.bin file that is used to clear the BIOS password.
That was the only way it could be done.
HP issued this document recently...

Also the forum rules were amended on 1 March 2019, which no longer allow us to help with removing passwords.
