Hello, a relative of mine has a battery problem (perhaps a problem with the part that allows the charger pin to be adapted).
This one was purchased in 2021, left unattended for 4 years, and the battery is no longer reliable because the PC and can't be turned back on. So to determine if there's another underlying problem, I need to find a battery first. No problem disassembling it (I even managed to unlock the SSD using the rubber band technique). The problem is that, based on the designation of the old battery, I can only find a higher voltage than the original (11.34 V, 41.04 Wh), because it's impossible to find an identical battery (11.28 V, 41 Wh) on the market.
Thanks in advance.
HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eh1019nf.
Part of the information on this one:
HW03XL L96887-421 HSTNN LB8U 11.28 V, 41 Wh.

Hello Max3Aj and thank you for your message.
This truly reassures me about my sister's laptop.
In fact, I found the problem with this power supply; it was the connector pin that was bent, and it's working again.
Of course, the battery needs to be replaced; the only problem is reformatting the SSD to get Windows back because of a forgotten password.
All this helps me make progress.
Thank you again for your valuable information.
Have a great day.
Best wishes from Brittany in France.

@HSMR59, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You're already very well-informed—nice work on unlocking the SSD and narrowing down the battery specs. Here's a clear breakdown of what you need to know regarding your HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eh1019nf and the HW03XL battery replacement:
✅ Battery Compatibility
Your original battery specs:
Model: HW03XL
HP Part Number (HP PN): L96887-421
Voltage: 11.28V
Capacity: 41 Wh
Type: Li-ion
Label Code: HSTNN-LB8U
🔄 Higher Voltage Battery (11.34V) — Is it Safe?
Yes — 11.34V is completely safe and compatible with your system. Here's why:
- The small difference (11.28V vs. 11.34V) is due to nominal voltage rounding based on lithium-ion cell chemistry.
- Both batteries use a 3-cell Li-ion pack, and their actual voltage range is the same (about 9.0V when low to 12.6V fully charged).
- HP often sources batteries from multiple vendors, leading to slight differences in printed voltage.
Just make sure the form factor and connector match — which they usually do, if it's labeled HW03XL or L96887-421.
🔍 Where to Buy?
When buying a replacement:
Look for these model/part numbers:
- HW03XL
- L96887-421
- HSTNN-LB8U
Reputable vendors to check:
- HP Parts Store - Click here
- Standard resellers such as Amazon/Ebay.
Or You may visit the nearest HP authorized service center. Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)
If you get a slightly higher Wh (e.g. 11.34V, 43Wh), that’s okay — it just means it might last a little longer per charge.
⚠️ Other Considerations
- Since the laptop sat unused for years, the CMOS battery or charging circuit may also need checking if it doesn’t boot after battery replacement.
- If possible, test it using a bench power supply or known-good charger with the battery removed — this can help rule out motherboard or charging circuit failure.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
