Hi
I am trying to add some RAM to my ZBook G5
I have 4 RAM slots : 2 under the keyboard - slots 1 & 2 (need to unmount a lot of things) and 2 customer accessible - slots 3 & 4.
I have 16Go 2667Mhz in slot1 (as told by various tools). So slot 2 is empty. I tried to add a RAM module in Slot 3 and then in Slot 4. I tried with 3 distinct modules : all of them are 3200Mhz : 8Go , 16 Go and 32Go.
It failed with all of them (caps lock and verr num leds blinking at startup). Is it worth to try to unmount everything to put in in

I believe you have to first populate the slots in the primary memory slots 1 & 2, and they should be populated with equal storage capacities in each slot.
Then you install matching capacities of memory in slots 3 & 4.
Make sure you are using the right type of memory based on the processor your notebook came with.
Only the models with the Xeon processors support ECC memory.
Chapter 1 has the memory upgrade info.
HP ZBook 15 G5 Mobile Workstation Maintenance and Service Guide
Chapter 5 of the manual also indicates the BIOS should be updated first before upgrading the memory.

Thanks for your fast answer.
I will try to teardown (thanks for the video link !) and install 16go in slot 2. Teardown seems to be quite complex. Hope it will work in the first place so that I do it only once 😉

You're very welcome.
Yes, that is a lot of work to get to that memory.
Why do they make it so difficult?
A single 32 Go memory chip is too much memory according to the manual.
Looks like 4 x 16 Go is the max.
Make sure the DDR4-3200 MHz memory you are installing is CL22.

Thanks for your time.
My Crucial 16GB 3200Mhz is indeed CL22.
I finally made the teardown to install it but had no better luck 😞
So I had to teardown another time ^^
Hopefully everything went well thanks to the video you linked. My laptop still works (but the ram modules stay on my desk ^^)
