I have a HP Envy M6-1302sa laptop running Windows 10 64bit Professioanl but I cannot get the fingerprint sensor to light-up but believe it is because I do not have the HP Client Security Manager installed.

I did try initially downloading the HP ProtectTools Security Manager but an incompatible error popped up stating that it doesn't work with Windows 10 then I came upon another link stating that for the purpose of Windows 10 it had changed its name to HP Client Security Manager but I am having severe problems in  locating a link to download it from!

This is driving me insane so any help/guidance would be much appreciated please....

Your computer is not a "business" system -- it does not use "Client Security" software.

If you managed to install Client Security (any version), Uninstall the software from Programs and Features > Restart the computer and log in

Your (consumer grade) system uses HP SimplePass security software.

Optional - Create a Restore Point

Stop all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications

Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

Optional:  Create a local "admin" login account

The additional login account is your "safe house" -- you can use the account to log into your computer in the event that something happens to your main account (locked, PIN number not working, other weirdness that prevents you getting into the computer).

  • For Windows 8.x through Windows 10

Create a User Account with Administrative Privileges - Windows 10 / Windows 8.x

Windows Updates

Before you can run SimplePass, Windows Updates must be current / installed and you must get the Windows Hello fingerprint logon set up and functional.

Windows key > Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates > if necessary, apply (install) Updates > After updates are installed, Restart the computer and log in

Install the fingerprint Reader software (Driver) for your computer

Validity Sensor fingerprint driver -- this one is rated for Windows 8.1 and should still work for Windows 10:

sp58869 Validity Sensor Driver V4.4.234.0 W8-W8.1/64bit

  1. Download, save and (Re)Install the fingerprint driver
  2. Restart the computer and log in

Create a PIN logon for Windows

Open Settings  > Accounts > Sign-in Options

Assign a PIN number (required in Windows 10)

  • After PIN is assigned, Fingerprint logon can be enabled

Help:  Fingerprint - Add or Remove in Windows 10

Install HP SimplePass

After you can successfull log into the computer using Windows 10 logon, it is time to "add" HP SimplePass

  • Download, save, and install the latest HP SimplePass software

sp76923 HP SimplePass V8.01.62A W7-W10 32/64bit

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Commentary

Will any of this work?  Unknown -- Windows 10 has changed quite a bit since its first release and there are not any HP Drivers for your computer (for Windows 10) to provide needed infrastructure.  Much depends on your computer's File System and its ability to support the programs and setup.

Good Luck.
