I am experiencing a very similar issue on a ProBook 440 G11 running Windows 11 Pro 24H2

I flattened the SSD and reinstalled a vanilla release of Windows 11 24H2

Downloaded the latest HP Support Assistant and installed all updates.

BIOS is up-to-date as per HP drivers website.

What is this HmxLib associated with?

Thanks, except for the SSD recommendation (which I don't consider necessary given the original problem), I already did the rest before raising the issue. Thanks.

Regards.

This appears to be caused by the service "HP App Helper HSA Service"

Disable this service and the file is no longer created on start-up or login.

The executable associated with this service is: AppHelperCap.exe

Hello,

Thank you very much for the information. I'm having trouble identifying and uninstalling the AppHelperCap.exe service.

I would appreciate any guidance on how to complete the process.

Thank you in advance.

Regards.

You don’t need to uninstall it, just disable the service itself.

  • Open a command prompt window and type services.msc
  • locate the service called HP App Helper HSA Service
  • double click to open its properties window
  • on the general tab, find the option Startup type and use the drop-down list to select Disabled
  • hit OK to save this change
  • before you reboot, find the Temp folder using File Explorer and delete the entire folder

Now restart the device, the Temp folder should not be recreated and neither should the annoying HmxLib.log file
