HP ElitePad 900 G1 Base Model Tablet
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

Dear HP Support Team,

I hope you are doing well.
I am contacting you regarding my HP ElitePad 900 G1 tablet, which is currently running Windows 8.1 Pro (32-bit). I need to reinstall Windows 8.1 (32-bit), but I am unable to complete the installation because the touchscreen does not function inside the Windows setup environment (WinPE).

Since I do not have an HP Docking Station or a USB OTG adapter, I cannot connect a keyboard or mouse to control the installation. Because of this, I am unable to proceed with the standard Windows setup.

I would like to request:

  1. A Windows 8.1 (32-bit) recovery ISO specifically made for the HP ElitePad 900 G1, or

  2. A Windows 8.1 recovery image that includes the ElitePad touchscreen drivers already integrated into the WinPE environment, so that touch input works during setup.

This would help me complete the installation without requiring a dock or external input devices.

Please let me know if such a recovery image or ISO is available for download, or if there is an official HP recovery tool for my device.

Thank you very much for your assistance.
I appreciate your support.

Sincerely,
Dhyandev

Hello.

HP used to have a Windows recovery USB stick for this model, p/n: C2Q30AV. Since Elitepad 900 is >10 years old, may not be available anymore . This will still require a USB port.

Without any USB or external connection, how are you installing Windows 8 in the first place - booting from SD?

Without access to keyboard and pointing device during Windows PE installation phase, your only option would be limited to using an autounattend.xml file on the installation media and then let Windows 8.1 install itself without any user input. The autounattend.xml is generated with free Windows ADK software from Microsoft, but there are online generators available as well.

There are better Microsoft help forums for helping you create the autounattend.xml.

In theory you could also try installing Windows 8.1 (32-bit) on another computer, then capturing the disk image and transferring it to the ElitePad via a bootable SD card with a solution like bootable Acronis Linux that may - or may not - support your touch screen. If touch is not available there, then you would need to automate the recovery with a ready made script of some sort, probably with Clonezilla or some other software. This may or may not work.

I can only recommend obtaining the USB adapter cable 695552-001, it will make installation MUCH easier. They are still available for very little money.
