The SD card reader is not working. I tried downloading the Realtek driver and that didn't suceed. Does the Envy Notebook have a different reader? Thanks for the help.

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that the memory card reader is not working on your HP Envy Notebook. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
As the drive normally shows up only when the card is inserted into the slot,
here's a list of articles you can use to resolve issues with the media card reader:
-
Go into device manager and uninstall the card reader, it should be listed as IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the card reader.
Here is a link to device manager.
-
Check if the problem is caused due to card issue. If the SD card is broken, it won’t be recognized by PC. You can plug the card into another PC to see if it works. If it doesn’t work either, you can try cleaning the card. After cleaning the card, if it still doesn’t work, the card is probably broken, you may need to have your card replaced.
-
Check if the card reader works. If the card reader is stuck with dust, it will lead bad contact between the card and the card reader. Try cleaning the card reader slot and see if this solves the problem.
-
Check if the card reader is disabled in BIOS settings. At the first screen after a restart, look for a key to press for “BIOS” or “Settings”. Verify that the card reader has not been disabled in the BIOS settings.
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers.

The SD card reader still isn't working. When I uninstalled the device, I also checked the delete software box, which was a BIG MISTAKE because then the system couldn't boot and I had to re-install Windows completely. Took all day!
I have two HP laptops running Windows 10, and the SD card isn't seen by either machine. However, I have another brand of laptop running Windows 10, and the SD card reads fine on that machine. The SD card is recognized initially in Windows 10, but when the Windows 10 updates are installed, something happens and the SD card is not accessible.
Also, in Windows 10 you cannot get directly to the BIOS by hitting a function key during start-up; you have to go in through Settings, then Update & Security, then Recovery - Advanced Startup; Advanced Options - Select UEFI firmware. Once I get into the BIOS, what am I looking for to determine if the card reader has been disabled?

Thanks for the reply.
I appreciate your time and effort.
Search for System Configuration in the BIOS page.
You will find Card Reader and enable it.
The card reader is integrated with the USB controller on your computer.
Once the driver is installed, insert any SD card in the slot and check if it gets detected.
Also, open device manager and check for any unknown devices, if there are any unknown devices, right-click on it and check for driver updates.
Refer to this HP Article for other troubleshooting steps.
Let me know if that helps.
Cheers.

On the System Configuration page of the BIOS, there were six options:
- Language - English
- Virtualization Technology - Disabled
- Card Reader Power Saving - Enabled
- Fan Always On - Enabled
- Action Keys Mode - Enabled
- Boot Options
Everything looked OK, but the SD card still isn't detected. Any other suggestions?
Also, I opened Device Manager and there were no unknown devices. Also, the article in the link is for Windows 7; do you have anything for Windows 10?
