HP EliteBook x360 1040 G8 Notebook PC (3V2P6AV)

PXL_20250630_162105653.jpgHello, I've used the notebook for over a year without issues. Because it's a company laptop I often take out the SIM card out and use it in other devices. A few days ago I could no longer do that.

The tray would not pop open. Normally when you push it all the way in the spring mechanism clicks and the tray pops open. Now it is not 'clicking' anymore and the tray is very slightly protruding outwards (1 or 2mm) from its normal closed position. I can grasp it with tweezers but it will not come out presumably because the mechanism hasn't released it.

I am in a real bind here. I need that SIM card and there seems to be no easy way to realease this without completely breaking it. After removing the back cover it also doesn't seem like this thing is a separate assembly so forcing it seems like will cause major damage. Does anyone have any ideas on how to release the mechanism? The tolerances around the tray  are really small and I tried poking inside with the smallest needle I have but it would just bend because it's really small and in the end it didn't give me any indication about anything..
