Hp laptop 14-dq1xxx

About 4 years ago I bought this laptop and have been using it almost daily since. About 6 months ago, 3 of the ports on the side of the laptop stopped working; the usb-c port (not a charging port), and both usb-c ports. The hdmi, power, and audio ports are all in working order.

Starting 2 weeks ago, my laptop would make chiming noises randomly. It sounded like I was plugging in and unplugging a mouse or something similar. This forum suggested I just turn the sound off through the settings, so I did.

I went to turn on my laptop about 15 minutes ago and I heard a pop and hissing. There was smoke coming out of the usb-c port. This, again, is not the charging port. I unplugged the laptop and immediately turned it off. I waited about five minutes and plugged it in/booted it up again. This time, there was no smoke or hissing or anything. My laptop now smells burnt and I am afraid to use it. It still turns on and holds a charge, but I need to know if I should cut my losses and stop using my favorite device.

Hi @Fedorathexplr,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

This could be a hardware issue with the unit and may need repair.

I suggest that you contact HP Service Center in your location from this weblink: https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/service-center
Note: Select your country from the dropdown,  enter the city or postal code, select the product and click on search to locate the nearest HP Service Center near your location.

Hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
