Work computer/workstation primarly used for CAD - Solidworks.
After returning the first ZBook Power 16 because of overheating under light loads (MS Teams/Outlook) we still had issues with Solidworks.
Issues:
- dedicated RTX ADA 500 GPU not working no matter what options we use or change - only uses integrated GPU
- inside SW2017 it takes about 3-5 second to pick an element (face/edge)
- FPS in SW2017 under 60fps
We tried various GPU drivers, settings, BIOS settings everything our IT department managed to think of.
Is there a permanent solution to this, or does our company have to pay for new SW2025 license with 8 years of backdating? I find it insane, that my 10 year old HP zbook can run SW2017 faster than a 2500$ work station.
What's also interesting is that only my computer has these issues - others with different specs/models do not have them.
Please advise. Dell, Lenovo and others dont present with these issues...

Hello.
Have you tried the last SW 2017 Service Pack to see if it helps?
Try asking this in the official SW forum or at /r/solidworks.
In any case, try disabling switchable graphics if possible. Solidworks has never liked multiple GPU's. If this is not possible in your Zbook model, force SW to use the RTX GPU via the Nvidia Control Panel.
If you still can't make it work, I recommend opting for those issue-free Dell/Lenovo laptops.

Hi @SCHEG
Sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your Zbook G11.
If your old Zbook works well with Solidworks 2017, but not the current one - it might be some settings in the firmware, some operating system setting, drivers, etc. Also, you mentioned it is on your PC which is facing these challenges but not others (I assume they are also current models).
About the last 2 issues - it might not be a problem caused by the PC but something in the software (e.g. settings/configuration / e.g. Win 11 vs Win 10 vs Win 7).
Have you checked with the Solidworks/vendor support teams ?
It seems to me deeper investigation might be needed. I am sure HP support will be happy to look into your issue. My personal recommendation -> the HP customer support for your country goes via HP authorized service partners. Please open this link >> https://web-customer-care-stage.hp.com/si-en/help/service-center
choose your country from the drop-down menu and pick-up a company/HP authorized partner you like. Contact them for assistance.
I believe no hardware issues will be discovered. If they are unable to resolve your problem in a prompt fashion, please ask them to escalate your matter to HP senior tech support, CDM, etc. You might also send me a private message (PM) if you happen to face difficulties with the support process and I will do my best to help.
Thank you for your cooperation !
