Bought a bunch of these docks to go with a bunch of Elitebook X360 1030 G3 notebooks. All of the docks randomly disconnect the network/display/USB.
Touching the USB-C docking cable can be enough to cause disconnection but at other times simply using the notebook keyboard is enough to provoke the issue. (Seems to be largely a physical issue with the dock cable, and swapping USB-C ports on the notebook makes no difference to the sensitivity of the docking cable interface).
What have others done to resolve this issue? (All driver & BIOS updates have been done).
We are thinking of ditching HP and trying a third party dock. Got any suggestions?

Same here. I am using a Zbook 15 G3 running Windows 10 (OS build 17134.648) and I can't get the HP Thunderbolt Dock 230 W G2 to stay connected to my computer, specially when the lid is closed.
I would like to be able to start my computer with the lid closed (I am using 1 HP E243i monitor connected through DisplayPort).
I know is a disconnection because I can hear the sound that the computer makes when a new device has been connected/disconnected.
I updated the drivers for both my computer(sp87193) and my dock station (sp93495) and that did not do it.
I changed my BIOS configuration to ThunderboltTM Security Level 0 and disable the FastBoot option
I double check that my computer's power settings are not sending my computer to sleep when my the lid is closed.
So far the only way I am able to use the G2 is with my lid open.
Any help is really appreciated.

HP acknowledges the issue and said it is due to the USB-C socket manufacturer having changed manufacturing tolerances. They sent us a couple of newer supposedly reworked EliteBook 1030 G3 to try but they were just as bad. Also tried third party docks with no joy. What did work for us was the new HP E243d docking monitors which I haven’t been able to fault on the same notebooks. HP are crediting is for all our Thunderbolt docks and we have ordered a bunch of the docking monitors.
