My touchpad won't scroll and click, even if settings are already correct.

Hi  @maeyay

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that the touchpad on your HP EliteBook 820 G3 is not responding correctly to scrolling and clicking, even after verifying the settings. I'll be glad to help you work through this.

To assist you better, could you kindly confirm a few details?

  • Are both the left and right click buttons affected, or is it only the touchpad surface?
  • Does the touchpad pointer move normally, or is scrolling and clicking the only concern?
  • Have you tried using an external mouse, and if so, does it work correctly?
  • Do you see any warning symbols related to the touchpad under Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices?

In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:

1. Enable the Touchpad Using the Keyboard

On some EliteBook models, the touchpad can be disabled accidentally.

  • Double-tap the upper-left corner of the touchpad (if your model has the touchpad indicator LED).
  • Also try pressing Fn + Touchpad key (if available on your keyboard).

2. Restart the Touchpad Device

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click the Synaptics/Touchpad device and select Disable device.
  4. Wait a few seconds and select Enable device.
  5. Restart the notebook.

3. Reinstall the Touchpad Driver

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click the Synaptics TouchPad device and select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

You can also download the latest drivers from the HP support page: https://support.hp.com/drivers

4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics - Click here for steps

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Turn it on and repeatedly tap F2.
  3. Open Component Tests.
  4. Check whether a Mouse/Touchpad test is available and run it.

Kindly refer to the following official HP document for additional guidance: HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting TouchPad Problems - Click here

I hope this helps.
