I have a ProBook 450 G9 with BIOS U85 01.07.00 from 2023 loaded. I need to upgrade it to the latest version. Here is what I've tried:
- Update through the BIOS using an online source. Fails since HP has disabled HTTP connections and the BIOS level is so old.
- Update through the BIOS using local source. (USB recovery) The laptop gets to the HP/Wolf Security screen and just sits.
- Upgrade through Windows. The process runs like normal and after the system reboots, it again sits at the HP/Wolf Security screen.
- Upgrade through the UEFI Diagnostics. Laptop reboots and I get a "Internal error." message.
I was going to try the "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics 4-in-1 USB Key" but it looks like ProBook G9s are not supported.
Thanks for any help that anyone can offer.

Since all three update methods are getting stuck at the HP/Wolf Security screen, I’d avoid repeatedly attempting the flash for now. It may be getting held up by a BIOS security setting or firmware issue, but the symptoms alone don’t confirm the cause.
I’d check with HP Business Support for the exact ProBook 450 G9 product number and ask whether there’s a recommended BIOS recovery procedure or an intermediate BIOS version needed before updating from 01.07.00. Also, if BitLocker is enabled, make sure you have the recovery key and a backup of important files before trying recovery steps. I wouldn’t disable security features or force a BIOS flash without HP’s guidance, since a failed update can leave the laptop unable to boot.
