Product: 348 G5
Operating System: FreeDOS

Hello,

I have bought a new HP laptop - 348 G5 which comes with only FreeDOS. When I try to boot it with USB drive (Ubuntu bootable), it keeps redirecting me to the boot menu which has two options - "FreeDos" and "HP documents".
I have shifted USB drive to the top in UEFI and Legacy Boot order but I still can't install Ubuntu and I am currently stuck with FreeDOS only.
Please help me out.

Hi:

 

The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if this works...

 

Go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot if the BIOS settings aren't like that now.

 

Then with the flash drive in a USB port, turn on or restart the PC.

 

Immediately tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu of options.

 

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that select the Legacy USB diskette on key/USB hard drive, and press the Enter key.

 

The PC should boot from the USB flash drive.

The Secure Boot option is unselectable but has already been set to 'Disabled'.

 

Now when I boot from "USB Hard Drive - SanDisk", I keep getting redirected to the boot option menu where I am shown 'FreeDOS' and 'HP Documents'.

Yeah, it worked on another PC. My problem is similar to the title here (https://askubuntu.com/questions/178896/trying-to-boot-ubuntu-from-usb-only-getting-freedos-command-p...).

Can you tell me the steps how should I make the flash drive bootable using Linux?

Hi

Almost any CD/DVD/USB burner will do.

The problem seems to be with the BIOS and selecting a boot device via F9.

Once upon a time HP advised to use the Port side Port for booting, IE: the left USB port if available.

I used startup disk creator on Ubuntu and was able to I install an OS. Problem is solved now.
