HP ZBook Firefly 14 inch G10 A Mobile Workstation PC (752N3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I've been receiving the following message whenever I attempt a BIOS update. I've run them manually from within Windows (multiple versions from HP's site), Windows Update, and over the network in the UEFI Network BIOS update option (both newest and rolling back, but I'm always getting the same message.  I've loaded the firmware to a brand new USB drive using the Create Recovery Media option in the BIOS update download, but I'm unable to launch a BIOS recovery from a boot (tried win + b and win + v), so that's not working either.

I've tried resetting and removing the BIOS password, but no change in how the laptop acts when attempting the BIOS update, it always stalls right as step 1/4 starts.

Any ideas on how I can successfully update the BIOS, short of paying and sending it back to HP?

Hi @AJ13579,

If you're encountering issues with BIOS updates for your HP ZBook Firefly 14 inch G10 Mobile Workstation PC, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that the BIOS update you are attempting to install is compatible with your specific model and configuration. It's important to verify that you are downloading the correct version for the HP ZBook Firefly 14 inch G10 Mobile Workstation PC (752N3AV).

  2. Reset BIOS Settings: Before updating, try resetting the BIOS to its default settings:

    • Restart your computer and press the F10 key repeatedly to enter the BIOS Setup utility.
    • Find the option to "Load Setup Defaults" and confirm to reset settings.
    • Save changes and exit.
  3. Use USB for Update: Since BIOS updates can sometimes be sensitive to installation environments, using a bootable USB to update the BIOS directly is often one of the most reliable methods. Ensure that the USB drive is formatted correctly and that the BIOS file is placed based on the instructions provided by HP.

  4. Download the Latest BIOS Update:

  5. Disable Security Features: Temporarily disable any security features that might prevent BIOS updates, such as BIOS protection utilities, secure boot, or antivirus.

  6. Consult Documentation: Refer to the BIOS update instructions provided in HP’s documentation to make sure you aren't missing steps during the update process.

  7. Check Errors and Logs: Examine any error messages closely. If possible, check for any logs generated that could give you more insight into why the update is failing.

The bios update came from the HP software and auto-installed, with this problem occurring after a standard reboot.  I've verified versions from HP's website, tried to install a newer one via USB, and ran a network BIOS update from the BIOS, all of which have failed.
