On my elitebook, i had a look at the ssd and it seems to say HDD on the back of the stick which is rather confusing?

That is a M.2 SATA SSD you have there.

 

You could upgrade that to a NVMe SSD since your notebook's M.2 slot supports both types.

 

NVMe SSD's provide much faster read/write speeds than SATA SSD do.

The Sandisk X400 is also a SATA SSD, not NVMe.

Actually, single ranked memory may be a tiny bit faster.

 

Dual ranked memory is usually more compatible with most PC's, which is why it may cost more.
