Hello!
I have an Elitebook 840 G8 without backlit keyboard. I would like to retrofit to a backlit one, but Im not sure if the connector is there. I believe it is as there is only one part number for the motherboard on this model, and it was sold with and without backlit keyboard. Am I right to assume this is possible?

Hello.
Yes, you can replace the keyboard with a backlit model and it will work.
I recommend looking at the Maintenance and Service manual for your Elitebook 840 G8. It includes all the spare part numbers and also instructions on how to replace the "top cover with keyboard":
