EliteBook 820 G3
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have my employer's managed EliteBook 820 G3 running Windows 7. Recently bought USB-c to Multiport hub to assistance days working at home. I was unable to install it though ("Couldn't identify hardware" etc.) . Is it more likely to be an issue with admin rights or hardware / OS incompatibility?

Thank you in advance for your replies! 🙂

Hello @GeorgeDiamond,

I'm pretty sure there are some people who may have managed to get it working but according to this Microsoft document, unfortunately, no, USB-C is not supported on OSes prior to Windows 10.

Däng. And also a bit surprising. Although this explains also why at our workplace no one can connect their laptops to their HP Port Replicators via USB-C adapters 🙂

I suspect leasing cycle with our current laptops is becoming to an end, so let's hope that the new machines will be running on Windows 10.

Anyways, thank you for your assistance and for swift answering. Have a nice week!
