- Why is my laptop battery almost empty every morning?

Hello everyone!
I recently realized that almost every morning when I start up my laptop, the battery is at around 15-20% and I get the alert message that the battery is low.
I have a HP Pavilion 15-eg0000 and it has an aluminum body.
- Does anyone know why the laptop battery gets drained in the morning? I shut down my laptop everynight.
- Also is there anything I can do to fix this?
I used to previously cover my laptop with a piece of cloth every night to protect it from dust for more than half a year. I stopped recently. Maybe the battery drain has to do with potential static build up?
I have also noticed that the laptop on rare occasions lags for a while. For example, sometimes it may get stuck on the lockscreen of windows 11, or sometimes it stuck when I switch between chrome windows or spotify. Also my laptop is under my AC.
Sorry if it seems like I'm just typing random bits of info, I'm just trying to provide the most amount of relevant info that could help with finding an answer.
Thank you so much for anyone who reads this and could help me with this issue!

Hi @Lid4,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with battery drain like that! Here are a few possible reasons and solutions for your HP Pavilion 15.
- Background Processes: Even when shut down, some laptops have settings that allow certain processes to run, which can drain the battery. Check your BIOS settings to see if there are power settings or wake-on features that might be causing this.
- Fast Startup: Windows 11 has a feature called Fast Startup, which may not completely shut down the laptop. You can disable it by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable, and uncheck "Turn on fast startup."
- Battery Health: Your battery might be aging. Check the battery health status through Windows settings (Settings > System > About > Battery) or using third-party software. If the health is significantly degraded, you might need a replacement.
- Power Settings: Ensure that your power settings are optimized for battery life. Go to Settings > System > Power & battery and adjust the settings for better efficiency.
- Static Build-up: It's unlikely that static from covering your laptop would cause battery drain. However, dust buildup can affect ventilation. Keeping your laptop clean is a good practice.
- Drivers and Updates: Ensure all your drivers are up to date, especially for the battery and chipset. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause performance issues and battery drain.
- Check for Malware: Occasionally, malware can cause battery drain. Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to rule that out.
- Physical Condition: If your laptop is under an AC unit, ensure that airflow is not obstructed and that the laptop is not overheating, which can affect performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
