Yes, your notebook supports M.2 2280 NVMe SSD's.

just want to add that there are report that the 981 runs very hot so make sure the heat sink is securely on the SSD.

 

Make sure you clone the old SSD to the new one and keep the old SSD for a few weeks incase of failure.

I highly doubt a heat sink is going to fit.  Not enough clearance.

 

I also believe that drive was an OEM drive in several different HP notebook models.

If you want a cooler running 500 GB drive, this is the model I recommend:

The 1 TB drive hardly costs much more-- Maybe $10 USD
