Microsoft Windows 11

Hi there, I think I ended up in somekind of a nightmare. I have reinstalled windows 11 a few times on my elitebook, since I changed ssd's.

BUT now suddenly Win11 say: you can't use a personal account, use scool or business account!!

I have only got my Personal Microsoft account, and it have worked every time until now.

What happened to my HP to mage it believe it is a Scool or Business computer suddenly?

Please any tips welcomed

Hello.

This is likely not a HP problem but a Windows problem. You will probably get better answers at a Microsoft forum.

Are you getting this message during Windows installation, on a web site, during logging in or what?

Does reinstallation of Windows mean "Reset My PC" or actual reinstallation from Windows 11 installation media?

Are you using e.g. Microsoft Office provided by your employer?

Is your personal Microsoft account email address from e.g. **bleep**/Hotmail/Yahoo/**bleep**/ISP or does the email domain belong to your employer?

Is the computer your own or owned by your employer? Your employer may have started managing the computer fleet and your laptop enrolls automatically to e.g. Intune when it has internet connectivity.

I am in no relationship with any employer since I am retired.

This is a elitebook I bought personally from a big company specialised in refurbished computers.

What bugs me the most is that the windows installation ( from a usb stick ) has worked

flawlessly a few times and then suddenly the pc is considered part of a scool or corporation

so my personal Microsoft account isn't good enough anymore.

But as you say I will contact Microsoft.

This refurbished computer's previous owner may not be up to date with its PC fleet inventory, and has erroneously enrolled the computer into their Intune management, which is a feature built into Windows, and when Windows is first time online it will contact the Intune servers and receive instructions from there.

I am fairly certain you can detect if your laptop is enrolled based on existence of some specific Registry keys, files and folders, but I don't have expertise to help you there.

The only way to stop this behaviour is to identify the organisation your laptop belonged to and then contact them.
