Windows Update is trying to update the BIOS on an HP Elitebook 840 G7 to version 1.15

Windows Update is trying to update the BIOS on an HP Elitebook 840 G7 from 1.14.2 version 1.15 and that version doesn't even exist on the driver support page to do it manually. At boot the computer says "Please wait while we install your update" and never does. It would be so bad if that all it did but we have BitLocker turned on so it makes the users have to enter their passwords 3 or 4 times before it bypasses the install. What can I do to stop it from trying to install this update that it received via Windows Updates? I've tried resetting Windows Updates and that didn't do anything.

What I do is to run the Microsoft Hide Windows Updates utility that I zipped up and attached below.

It will search for pending updates and should find the BIOS update trying to install.

Check the box to hide the update.

The utility will run again and report the problem is 'fixed.'

Restart the PC and the update should be gone.

If it is still there and you get the notice that Windows update needs attention, press the retry button (you may have to do it more than once) and the problem should be gone.

I have noticed that we get BIOS updates pushed by HP to Microsoft Windows update a couple of weeks before HP uploads them to the support page.

I don't like this new way of sending drivers to PC's.

My understanding is that there is a setting in the BIOS to ignore BIOS updates sent that way, but I forgot where or what the setting was called.

See if your notebook has a setting like this...UEFI Firmware Capsule Updates...Enable/Disable.
