Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Zbook 15 g5 that I reinstalled Windows 10 on after replacing the drive.  I’ve tried letting the drivers get discovered automatically in both windows update and using support assist, as well as doing it as manually as I can.  I’ve also tried migrating up to windows 11 and back again.  My regular wired NIC does not appear in the device manager or the windows network adapter list, so plugging a cable in does nothing.  I also lose audio after I start loading drivers and it never comes back.  The device manager shows a conexant hd audio device but it shows the red x in the system tray and there are no other playback options in the sound properties.  Any suggestions?

Hi:

Use the HP cloud recovery client utility to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is the link to the file download:

I've zipped up and attached the instructions for use below.

I ran through this procedure and though some of the syeps along the way were different, the end result was the same.  When the laptop first boots windows after the install, I have audio, but after the software starts the drivers, it’s gone, and I have the red x back.  If I poke around into the sound settings, it tells me there are no playback devices.  My wired NIC never shows up in the windows adapter panel or the device manager.

You may want to check the BIOS to make sure the ethernet adapter is enabled.

Turn off the LAN-WLAN switching option if your notebook has such a setting.

My Elitebook has the LAN/WALN switching setting and if it is enabled and an ethernet cord is not plugged in the ethernet adapter does not appear in the device manager.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know what to do about the audio issue.

Well, I’m not sure why anyone would turn the onboard NIC off in bios, but that was the solution for that.  Now I’m just stuck with the audio problem…
