HP ZBook 17 G5 Mobile Workstation IDS Base Model

Hi all

So, I have ZBook 17 G5 with Windows 11 23H2 OS Build 22631.3155 (fresh installation) - and touchpad is dead, together with pointing stick, oh however do you call that nipple in the middle of the keyboard.

In Device Manager I have a yellow triangle next to I2C HID Device, and on my every attempt to slide back old downloaded drivers, the powerfull and self sufficient Operating System decides that the best possible driver is already installed.

(hidi2c.sys and mshidkmdf.sys)

I have tried allmost everything mentioned and written on the Internet including changing / deleting "UpperFilter" key (which solved the most of the similar problems) with no luck.

Is there a remedy for that or am I doomed to use external mouse

Regards

Hi @Satman1w

As you said there is a yellow triangle on the device manager on TPU driver status. Please try to uninstall it, if possible then you should try to update it through Settings>Update and Security >Windows update.

You may try also the HP Support Assistant or HP Image Assistant (HPIA).

Hopefully, the issue will be resolved.

Thanks.

Hello.

Did the touchpad work before the installation of Windows?

Does the touchpad and nipple work in BIOS or Diagnostics environment? Did they work during Windows installation?

If touchpad doesn't function in BIOS or didn't work during Windows 11 installation either, this is a hardware problem.

In that case, try the HP Power Reset procedure. I recommend updating the BIOS as well - although the release note history does not have any mention of touchpads, so unlikely but always a good thing to do anyway.

If the hardware works outside of Windows:

Have you tried the Alps Alpine driver from Zbook 17 G5 download page or others? (they look like the same as offered by Windows Update, though). Can you please provide the Hardware ID for the offending HID device? (device manager -> your HID device properties -> Details. Hardware Ids is the third option in the menu (in case your Windows language is not English). Just copy and paste the line(s) shown, usually something like "hid\alp0017&col02" or similar.

Hi,

Touchpad worked fine for some time, then stopped aprox a month ago. So I reinstalled drivers from HP site and bring back my touchpad to life...

Few days later it stopped working again (was it after w11 23h2 or not... I don't know). This time I am unable to roll back to the driver that worked i have constant yellow triangle by i2c device in device manager, and now I am here waiting for good idea 😄
