I wanted to add a second storage disc on my ZBook, and I bought a Samsung 1TB SSD 980 NVMe M.2. When I add this to one of the two emty slots it does not appear in the system. I havde tried both slots, but none of these seem to work. Insted, the 3 USB ports is being disabled. I had to remove the SSD and reinstall USB drivers.

The main SSD in the computer is a Samsung PM981 MZVLB512HAJQ (SSD NVMe).

Product no: 2XD26AV

Can tell me what to do? Do I need to boy another type of SSD?

Before I can comment anything, I need to know what is the generation of your machine. I think current generation is G6 or 7.

Regards.

Did you check SSD in Disk Manager?

HP Recommended

Yes, but the SSD did not appear there.

I tried to install two NVME SSD (one is PM981a but 256GB) on it and both worked.

You can check port option enable/disable state in BIOS menu(Setup menu -> Advanced -> Port options)

Thanks. It's strange why it doesn't work on my computer then. See below how it looks on my computer. I do not see any big difference from your computer?

Is it maybe because I need to install two NVME SSD's instead of only one?

I tried to enable some items in Setup Menu and all of my SSD disappeared.

But please don't change it on your notebook, it may make your original SSD abnormal.

I enabled "Configure Storage Control for RAID" and "Configure Storage Controller for Intel Optane".

Could you help me to check this setting on your PC?

The two settings are disabled on my computer:

Thanks. Both settings are correct.

Now I have no more idea for this symptom...

Assuming new SSD is not damaged, maybe you can try to restore factory default in Setup Menu in Main page.

Before that, I would suggest that copy bios setting to your USB drive.

1. Insert USB drive in Setup menu

2. Click item "Replicated Setup" in Setup Main page

3. Click Backup current settings to USB Drivice

4. Once it shows successfully saved, back to Main Page and click apply factory default and exit.

I hope it helps you.
