When I connect the dock with both the barrel jack & TB USB-C, the dock will briefly connect to the laptop and shows up in TB control center and then will disconnect and reboot (the dock reboots, not the laptop). Occasionally, it causes the laptop to completely freeze (no BSOD) and the only way to get it back is to hard reboot by holding down the power button. To try and isolate the issue, I disconnected all external devices from the dock but the issue is still present. I had thought this was a hardware issue so I requested a new dock but unfortunately, that one has the same issue.
I have also noticed that when I try to connect the dock, I get this error from Hyper-V-VmSwitch in event viewer which makes me suspect an issue with the ethernet drivers perhaps? "Failed to connect NIC xxxx-xxxxx.... (Friendly Name: ) to port xxxx-xxx... (Friendly Name: ) on switch xxxx-xxxx... (Friendly Name: ), status = Object Name not found.. UniqueEvent = 80." Note that the "friendly name" is blank for all devices listed. I also see two information events from nhi saying the G4 dock was connected followed by the disconnected event. There is also a warning event from e2fexpress with no description since "the source cannot be found." It does say that it is coming from the I225-LMvP ethernet controller which I understand is the one on the dock since the laptop uses a I219-LM.
I have already tried the following:
- Installed all recommended & optional sofpaqs from HP support assistant
- Manually updated thunderbolt drivers (sp143571)
- Manually updated G4 dock firmware (sp143669) - unable to complete as the dock will not stay connected
- Manually updated intel chipset device software (sp142045)
- Updated ethernet drivers (intel driver & support assistant installer)

Was able to fix the issue by getting an older computer and using that to update the firmware on the dock.
