That's encouraging.

This product is still fairly recent so it's reasonable to expect a few BIOS updates, hopefully fixing the issue.

Tried the kernel params you listed. Fans still spinning at ~ 44 to 45 dB (recorded by an app called decibel X on iOS) even tho CPU clock is being capped at 3.6 GHz. Seem like I got a pair of bad fans? How loud the fans are running for you?

HP Recommended

Your numbers seem insane.
Notebookcheck has a review that doesn't list such high values

The fans would remain quiet at around 28 dB(A) against a background of 24 dB(A) when running undemanding loads like Excel or browsers

They list 49.2 dB under maximum load.

I cannot monitor the fan speeds on Linux, so cannot tell you the RPM.
Right now I'm in a quiet individual office, the very light background noise makes hearing the fans impossible.
Only if I have at least one thread burning they become audible.

Your fans are loud on both Windows & Linux ? If so, you clearly have a BIOS or hardware issue.

Have you tried restoring the BIOS to factory ?

HP Recommended

Yup. It is indeed fairly loud regardless of OS. And I have tried to restore default in bios for a lot of time. In windows, is even louder. Up to 60 dB measured by the same iOS app. The only thing I wanted to try but not able to try is downgrade the bios to 1.03.00 or even 1.02.00. Always getting a security policy violation error when trying to downgrade. Oh well, now after seeing your messages, I guess I have no choices but to bring it in for service

HP Recommended

Regarding the BIOS downgrade, pretty sure there is an option in the BIOS to explicitly allow downgrades.

You may want to try that.

Yea. Saw that. Something like bios update credential policy, Bios rollback policy and minimum bios version , I remember I did set them to Never Required, unrestricted rollback and blank. But still no dice. Don’t know what is wrong. I may give it another go tonight.
