I have an HP pavilion laptop which is less than 6 months old. The battery drains while off
I have checked the BIOS program, turned off blue tooth and followed all other suggestions from this site.
I have done a battery report and it is not showing anything draining the battery.
I cannot get through a work session without charging the laptop.
There must be a fix to this issue.
I had an HP laptop for 8 years and this was never a problem.

Hi @jlc71229,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
I understand that you are having issues with the battery.
If your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-Eg3000 is experiencing battery drain while powered off, despite checking the BIOS settings and ensuring Bluetooth is turned off, there are a few additional steps and considerations you can explore to troubleshoot this issue:
1. Power Settings and Firmware Updates
Ensure your laptop's firmware (BIOS/UEFI) and drivers are up to date:
Update BIOS: Visit HP's official support website, enter your laptop model and download the latest BIOS update if available. BIOS updates sometimes include fixes for power management issues.
Update Drivers: Make sure all device drivers, especially those related to power management, are up to date.
2. Check Power Off State
Verify that your laptop is actually entering a fully powered-off state:
Fast Startup: In Windows, fast startup can sometimes prevent a complete shutdown. Disable it by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable > Uncheck 'Turn on fast startup'.
Shutdown Command: Ensure you're using the correct shutdown command (Start > Power > Shut down) rather than sleep or hibernate.
3. Hardware Checks
Check for any physical issues or anomalies:
Physical Inspection: Ensure there are no external factors like stuck keys or a malfunctioning power button that might prevent the laptop from fully powering off.
Battery Health: While less than 6 months old, defective batteries can still occur. Contact HP Support if you suspect a faulty battery.
4. Windows Power Troubleshooter
Run the built-in Windows Power troubleshooter to identify and fix power-related issues:
Search: Type Troubleshoot in the Windows search bar and select Troubleshoot settings.
Run Troubleshooter: Scroll down to find Power and click on Run the troubleshooter.
5. Power Drain Investigation
To investigate further:
Battery Report: Generate a detailed battery report again to check if any processes or applications are causing unexpected battery drain, even when the laptop is supposed to be off.
Event Viewer: Check Event Viewer for any abnormal shutdown events or processes that might be running when the laptop is supposed to be off.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, especially considering the laptop is relatively new and may still be under warranty, it's advisable to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
