It sounds like there might be an issue with your HP EliteBook 860 G9 regarding its power status detection. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to address this issue:

Steps to Troubleshoot

  1. Restart Your Laptop:

    • A simple restart often resolves many issues. Ensure your laptop is restarted completely to refresh the system.
  2. Check the Power Adapter and Port:

    • Inspect the power adapter and the charging port for any visible damage or debris that might be causing the system to incorrectly detect a connection.
  3. Reset the Battery:

    • Turn off your laptop and remove any connected peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to reset the internal state.
    • Turn the laptop back on and check the power status.
  4. Update Battery Drivers:

    • Go to Device Manager.
    • Expand the "Batteries" section.
    • Right-click on "Microsoft AC Adapter" and "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and select "Update driver."
  5. BIOS Update:

    • Ensure your BIOS is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Support Assistant or on the HP website.
  6. Battery Diagnostics:

    • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool (if available) to perform a battery check.
    • This can provide insights into any potential battery issues.
  7. Perform System Diagnostics:

    • Restart the laptop and press the "Esc" key repeatedly while it is booting to access the Startup Menu.
    • Select "F2" to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Run the necessary tests under "Component Tests" to check the health of the battery and the power adapter.

I hope this helps! If you need any more assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
