Hello,

I recently acquired an HP EliteBook Folio 1040. The seller informed me that the BIOS password was set, but unfortunately, they forgot it. I have attempted to access the BIOS, but the laptop does not show the “System Disabled” code after multiple wrong password attempts, which makes it impossible to generate a master reset password.

I do not want to open the laptop or remove the CMOS battery because I don’t have the required tools or technical skills.

Additionally, I plan to run a virtual machine on this laptop, but being locked out of the BIOS severely limits its functionality.

Could you please advise if there is any official or supported method to reset or bypass the BIOS password without hardware intervention? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi:

Unfortunately, you acquired a rather expensive paperweight.

There is no way to remove the BIOS password on HP business notebook PC's and the only solution would be to replace the system board if the seller cannot remember the password.
