charging iphone using thunderbolt

Dear community,

My Laptop model is Elitebook 830 G6

I would like to know about the USB C (thunderbolt) port in my laptop, I have tried to charge my iPhone 12 using it  and transfer files between phone and laptop but it is not charging or neither transferring. 

I like to know about the thunderbolt port, it is not suitable for charging and file transferring?
