Welcome to the HP Community --

The fingerprint reader is an OPTIONAL feature in this series.

Although Windows 11 is indeed slightly different from Windows 10, the following document does include several key checkpoints and is worth a look:

HP Notebook PCs - Fingerprint reader troubleshooting (Windows 10)

Additional Information

First,

Find the location of the fingerprint reader on the keyboard

Reference:  Maintenance & Service Guide >> Pages 13-14

Fingerprint reader (select products only)
Allows a fingerprint logon to Windows, instead of a password logon.
▲ Swipe down across the fingerprint reader.
IMPORTANT: To prevent fingerprint logon issues, make sure when you
register your fingerprint that all sides of your finger are registered by the
fingerprint reader.

Reminder:  This type of fingerprint reader box looks the same whether there is an actual reader in the computer or just a cover plate over the hole where a reader would be located.

Next,

Check whether the Device Manager detects a fingerprint sensor in the hardware.

Reminder:  If the Device Manager does not show a fingerprint driver, there is no working fingerprint sensor in the computer.

Depending on the model, the fingerprint sensor might be integrated into the top cover / keyboard area.  Check your system’s user manual.

Reminder:  If the system does not have a fingerprint sensor, there might be a "cover plate" in place of the sensor.

If your system does not have a fingerprint sensor and the option is available for your model series, the sensor can be purchased and installed.

Device Manager > Biometric devices > Fingerprint sensor (if listed)

Generic Example - "Box" type Fingerprint Reader on Keyboard

------------------------------------

Reminder:  There are not any new fingerprint drivers -- the current driver is dated (at this writing) 2021.  If your computer includes fingerprint reader installed in the hardware, the driver found in Category Software & Drivers > Section Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices can be used to reinstall the fingerprint driver software for Windows 10 / Windows 11.
